So with the season winding down we decided to take a trip and visit the land of the rising sun to compete in the “Holy Bowly”. We got out there and we had to immediately deal with some stupid drama; first off the jam almost was cancelled, and then the weather decided it was not going to cooperate with us. We where supposed to ride 6 days, but due to rain only got to see 2 days on the hill and the rest was in the city being tourist. This episode does not have the most snowboarding in it, but it is defiantly entertaining to watch, so kick back and get your popcorn and enjoy the last episode of Season 2.

The concept was developed by Pat Milbery as a means to link the art of snowboarding with the art of music, through a unique branded event. The goal for Shredded Beats is to bring together Professional Snowboarder’s, Musician’s and Artists, to share in each other’s art forms.

In essence, it’s a unique opportunity for artists in different industry’s to swap art forms through an event setting. Past artist’s involved have included Pigeon John, Swollen Members, and Opio from Soul’s Of Mischief/Hieroglyphics.

In February of 2012, So-Gnar’s Pat Milbery and Captain Safety spearheaded and arranged for a unique trip to Japan, called Shredded Beats: Japan. Shredded Beats Japan was an ART/MUSIC/SNOWBOARDING excursion to one of our favorite places on the planet. We brought fellow Colorado music producer Michal Menert of Pretty Lights Music and Adam Harris, Coalatree’s staff filmer, to film and document our travels.

We touched down in Tokyo, and were off! We stayed with several of So-Gnar’s closest friend’s in various areas of Japan. The crew sampled the local cuisine, taught a 2 day snowboard camp (with over 30 little Japanese rippers!), Michal tore it up at Club New Lex in Roppongi, we hit the world’s largest fish market, spent numerous days in the Mountains getting fresh powder, and even had some time for some street art.

This trip was primarily based around the Japan stop for the Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour, So-Gnar’s annual 12 stop event. This was the second year we have conducted snowboard camps for kids in it the Yuzawa community of Japan. Through our relationship with Allian Snowboards, we have been able to help progress snowboarding in Japan through this annual 2-day camp.

During the trip, the very talented Michal Menert created a soundtrack based on the various inspirational of surroundings & landmarks of Japan, including the local culture influencing his music development. We toured a wide variety of unique areas including neighborhoods like Harajuku and Shibuya, to famous landmarks like Asakusa Temple, the Tokyo Tower, to chaotic environments such as Tsukiji, the World’s largest fish market.

To document our travels and experiences, Coalatree Organics linked the footage up with Vital Films out of Aspen Colorado, to handle the post- production and to add their Midas touch. The recap will consist of 3 installments. This is the first installment, 2 and 3 will be up next in the coming weeks. Stay tunned….And view the whole story at

Future Tense was a blast on Friday and here is an absolutely astounding video of all the excitement that went down throughout the course of the event. If you weren’t able to make it then hopefully this video will give you a glimpse into what went down.

Thank you to everyone who made it! We had 80+ people in attendance and amazing weather. Tyler Johnson jumped over a Red Bull car and through fire. He definitely kept people entertained. Congrats to Felix Dol for winning the sprints which earned him a Contour ROAM camera.

Shout out to all of the creatives involved with the making of this video. It is better than I could’ve possibly expected (or done myself). Thank you!

Gnu Snowboards’ traveling mini-shred tour finished off in grand fashion last weekend at Washington’s Summit at Snoqualmie resort. After stoking out kids and parents in a full gamet of conditions at Brighton, Loon Mountain, Mount Seymour and Sierra-at-Tahoe we were treated to broken blue skies and sun during one of the snowiest springs in NW history. This was actually the fist time the GHG has ever had sun in it’s five year run at the Summit, and the kids wasted little time in destroying all the features the park crew had assembled. 60 kids from age 3 up to 13 years and 364 days old learned new tricks, met new friends, had lunch served to them by Pete Saari (Mervin Mfg), John Logic (Snowboard Connection) and Johan Malkoski (C3 Worldwide), got pointers from NW Lib Tech shred and sitting Mayor of Tube City Stefan Krumm and walked away with tons of prizes from Gnu Snowboards, Arnette Eyewear, Lib Tech Snowboards, POW Gloves, Poler Stuff, Snowboarder Magazine, High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Snowboard Connection. This was a perfect end to an amazing year of GHG stops…the future of snowboarding is in good hands. Look for even more stops next year!

GNU’S GREENHORN GAMES – SIERRA-AT-TAHOE

Gnu headed south for the first ever Greenhorn Games in NorCal and brought the NW pow with them. Over 6 feet of snow fell during the storm making it the biggest one of the year in Tahoe. The park crew at Sierra delta with it like the pros that they are and built a great set-up for the kids in Upper Main Park. Though the huge snowfall kept away a lot of parents and their kids, the 20+ kids who were there more then made up for it in energy, style and a deep bag of tricks. Everybody met new friends, learned new tricks, had lunch, got a shirt, drank pickle juice and walked away with prizes from GNU, Lib Tech, Arenette, POW Gloves, POLER, High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Snowboarder Magazine. Thanks to all the Sierra-at-Tahoe staff for making it such a great weekend and we’re looking forward to next years stop!
