Founded in 1994, The Boardinghouse has moved a few times in South Lake Tahoe before settling down at the foot of the Heavenly Gondola, where it’s been for the past decade. Prior to that, The Boardinghouse of old wasn’t too different from how it is now – South Tahoe’s premier snowboard shop. As one of the original snowboard shops to open in Tahoe and throughout the country, The Boardinghouse has seen the true evolution of the sport and has assisted Tahoe locals and travelers with the gear info and enthusiasm for the sport. Having sponsored many events over the years, The Boardinghouse has encouraged the progression of snowboarding and now stands as a pillar in the Tahoe community, where it will continue to stand with deep roots in the community and the sport.
The Boardinghouse sits at the base of Heavenly Mountain Resort in the Heavenly Village. As the go-to shop at Heavenly, The Boardinghouse is South Tahoe’s most accessible outfitter for any shralper's needs. Offering hardgoods, apparel, accessories, a tuning shop & more, riders can find a huge variety of snowboarding's most popular gear, along with premium service to get dialed for the hill.
The shop vibe is all about being inclusive. The collective staff knows that the more people that are shredding, the better, and whoever has the most fun, wins! There is no need for excessive snobbery 'round these parts. Not sure what all that banana-quad-core-asymetric lingo is all about on the new deck you're eyeing? The shop's ‘try before you buy’ program gives customers the chance to test out the latest boards before pulling the trigger.
The shop staff is entirely local, super friendly and avidly knowledgeable about all the brands and gear stocked on the shelves. From the savvy customer to the newbies, The Boardinghouse's product selection, demo program and rockstar staff makes dialing in your setup not only painless, but potentially even fun.

How did you end up working for the shop?
Living in a mountain town, I really wanted to be a part of the snowboard community and obviously ride as much as I possibly can. I pestered the manager and hung around the shop until a job opened up. By being a part of the shop, I’ve gained a ton of knowledge and have built lots of relationships.
What made you want to move to Tahoe out of all the other mountain towns out there?
Tahoe has so much history behind the snowboard scene and it offers way more resorts to ride around the lake. Heavenly’s parks are on point, and we also get that Cali sunshine.

In your eye’s, what makes Boardinghouse a standout shop amongst the others?
The gear of course, but mostly the crew! We’ve got all the newest brands and variety for all styles and riders. We’re one of the few shops around that has carried both Nike and Adidas snowboard gear. Also, our demo fleet is top notch at the right price.. there are tons of sick boards to try out. That’s the way to go if you’re looking to make that next big purchase. Also our location, being right at the bottom of the gondola, is prime. You can swap out boards throughout the day and just mix it up.
How do you motivate shoppers to visit your store?
At the Boardinghouse we carry a large selection of snowboard gear for your everyday needs, and with a friendly and helpful staff we'll get you dialed in! Also, we have a large selection of 2015 demo setups at the best price in town.
Why does the Boardinghouse stand apart from larger, box retailers of the industry?
From the core brands the Boardinghouse carries to the rad staff crew, it's a unique shop with a bunch of people that simply love to snowboard.
The Boardinghouse is open daily in the summer and the winter, at least ½ hour prior to Heavenly’s lift operation and most always into the evening depending on the season. Find them upstairs from The North Face in the Cecil’s building at the Heavenly Village.
